Miaoli International Village

Introduction
To foster international education, the Miaoli County Government has actively created immersive learning environments. In addition to the existing English Village, the International Village was launched in the 2021 academic year. It features three themed classrooms where students can experience a global atmosphere without traveling abroad. This pioneering initiative is the first of its kind in Taiwan.
The three themed classrooms—Global Li, Dear JK (Northeast Asia), and Sailing to the SEA World (Southeast Asia)—are designed to deliver comprehensive international education programs. The Village is open for school applications every Wednesday afternoon. It not only addresses the shortage of teaching resources in rural schools but also provides high-quality learning environments with interdisciplinary, inquiry-based, and interactive courses, maximizing the impact of international education in Miaoli.

Themed Classrooms
★ Global Li
Established in alignment with the Ministry of Education’s International Education 2.0 policy and Miaoli’s key educational objectives, the International Education Resource Center was set up on August 1, 2020. The International Education Advisory Team was later formed in 2021 to assist teachers in integrating international education themes and to expand students’ global perspectives.
The “Global Li” classroom is rooted in SDGs and incorporates multicultural themes related to food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and entertainment. Through immersive learning, students build global knowledge frameworks and develop the ability to observe, experience, interpret, and participate in the world.
A small classroom with a global vision—connect with the world from Miaoli.

★ Dear JK (Northeast Asia)
Given Taiwan’s close connections with Japan and South Korea, this classroom creates a culturally rich environment inspired by Northeast Asia. Upon entering, students will find large wall visuals, tiled regional maps, iconic landmarks, and immersive décor such as a tatami room and traditional costumes.
The curriculum integrates multicultural themes and SDGs through interactive, exploratory, and experience-based learning. Advanced technology tools like a 75-inch interactive screen, VR/AR, and a green screen wall enhance the immersive experience, making learning both engaging and memorable.

★ Sailing to the SEA World (Southeast Asia)
With a growing Southeast Asian population in Miaoli, this classroom highlights regional cultures through colorful murals, traditional attire, music, and cuisine. It promotes cross-cultural understanding and global competence.
Students participate in activities such as puzzle maps and cultural explorations to learn about Southeast Asian geography and lifestyles. Centered in Miaoli, they are encouraged to look outward and embrace the world.
